Dr. Carmen Anne Luterbach

Dr. Carmen Anne Luterbach has been working with patients in a clinical setting for the past 10 years. She has a special interest in thyroid health, women’s health, chronic infections, resolving adrenal burn-out, and pediatrics.

Her story to pursue naturopathic medicine began in childhood where chronic illness affected her mother at a young age. Her mother had a severe, rapidly progressive form of multiple sclerosis (M.S.) diagnosed in her late twenties.

Dr. Luterbach’s childhood was filled with deeper questions about the meaning of life and loss. She studied M.S. as a young scientist hungry for answers. Observing first hand some of the limitations of medicine in chronic, complex illness, she searched for solutions.

As a young adult, travel to China, South East Asia and India provided a deepening of world view and a fresh perspective on natural medicine.

She deeply understood that answers come from listening to the patient. Discovering the multiple causes of illness. Uncovering the truth in the patient’s story. Beginning first with lifestyle, diet, habits and emotional well-being while investigating any possible triggers to disease.

Dr. Luterbach values family in life and in the clinic. She is a proud mother of two daughters who keep her on her toes! She brings her experience as a mother into the office visit offering a supportive, safe environment and keeping treatment plans realistic. She speaks from personal experience on topics of family health and wellness, fertility care, peri-natal and post-partum treatment.

Her greatest goal is to inspire families to achieve optimal health.

To inspire others in the greater Nanaimo community, Dr. Luterbach speaks on topics such as thyroid health, menopause, interpreting genetic results and therapeutic fasting.

She holds advanced training in genetic testing and interpretation, SIBO diagnosis and treatment, intravenous therapies and hormone medication prescription and tapering.

Dr. Luterbach enjoys trail running, yoga, hiking and camping. She is an avid outdoor enthusiast and feels most comfortable under the stars!

Dr. Luterbach is currently accepting new patients seeking acupuncture or naturopathic medicine.

Dr Luterbach's goals are to optimize the health of both parents before baby is born and to educate and empower them with natural, effective treatments for keeping their children healthy.

Dr. Carmen Luterbach

“My naturopathic practice has begun a transformation of its own. I have been focusing on the care of infants, children and their parents!  It is my passion to care for the long-term health of families.

My own family spends weekends hiking or camping at Rathtrevor Beach, Maffeo Sutton Park, Morrell Nature Sanctuary and the Englishman River. On Wednesday afternoons, you will find us at the Island Roots Farmer’s market, filling our basket with ripe, local treasures.

Fresh food is a definite passion of our family – from meeting local food producers and cooking whole food meals to nurturing a backyard vegetable garden.

As a busy mother, I carve out time for myself to go running and attend yoga classes. For playtime, I thrive on the laughter and connection from acrobatic, partner yoga.  To let go, I dance to reggae and folk music around the house (sometimes even during chores!).

I live for cuddles with my daughters, the smell of the forest after a rain, deeper human connection and new experiences. I am a curious, compassionate and authentic human being. And I love that my training in naturopathic medicine allows me the opportunity to nurture the seed of health in others."
