Unlock the Transformative Power of Intermittent Fasting (IF)

Are you looking to supercharge your health and wellness journey? Increase energy? Help lower blood sugar levels? Lower the risk of arthritis, atherosclerosis, autoimmunity, diabetes, dementia and cancer? Whether your goal is weight management, improved energy levels, or enhanced mental clarity, intermittent fasting could be the missing piece of the puzzle.

You’ve probably heard about fasting. Intermittent fasting is a popular health trend that involves cycling between periods of fasting and eating. It has gained attention for its potential health benefits, including weight management, improved metabolic health, and even longevity. There are several different methods of intermittent fasting, such as the 16/8 method, where individuals fast for 16 hours and have an 8-hour eating window, or the 5:2 method, where individuals eat normally for five days a week and consume very few calories on the other two days.Intermittent fasting isn't just another fad diet — it's a lifestyle choice backed by scientific research and real results. By incorporating scheduled periods of fasting into your routine, you can kickstart your metabolism, regulate blood sugar levels, and unlock your body's natural fat-burning potential.

How are the health benefits of IF achieved?

  1. IF allows the body to use blood and stored glucose.

  2. It flips the metabolic switch to start burning fat.

  3. Promotes autophagy, a natural process that normally happens during fasting.

  4. Autophagy encourages the body to break down old, senescent, or diseased cells and recycle the cellular components to regenerate newer, healthier cells.

By finishing eating early in the evening, there are more hours to digest your last meal. During sleep the body can focus on cleaning and detoxifying hthe brain which leads to better brain function to decrease risk of neurodegenerative conditions.

How long should I IF?

16/8 means you intermittent fast for 16 hours, for example from 7 pm in the evening to 11 am the next morning. The next 8 hours is your eating window. Water or non-caffeinated herbal teas are find during the fasting period.

At VitaCare Natural Health Clinic we believe in a holistic approach to health and wellness, and intermittent fasting, when appropriate, (IF is not appropriate for everyone and that there are populations that should not do it including: children, pregnant women, individuals with a history of eating disorder and certain medical conditions - we recommend discussing this with your ND if you are interested in trying it.) can be integrated into a comprehensive plan that includes nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle counseling. If you're interested in exploring intermittent fasting as part of your wellness journey, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with one of our healthcare providers who can provide personalized recommendations and support to help you achieve your health goals safely and effectively.
